Toughened Safety Glasses

• Glasslite provides toughened glass for lights that require the glass to have greater strength, safety and resistance to temperature changes. When toughened the glass (usually float), is placed in a roller hearth tempering furnace. The glass is heated then rapidly cooled. As a result, balancing compressive and tensile strengths are set up in the glass, which gives toughened glass four to five times more strength than ordinary glass of the same thickness.   • Thermal Resistance to temperature differences of   250ºC in a range from -70ºC to +300ºC.   • Processed in a wide variety of shapes and sizes   to meet specific requirements. Note Minimum Sizes 300 x 250 x 4mm is the nominal minimum size that can be processed locally. Smaller sizes are available but they are an import item.   • High quality break pattern. If toughened glass does break from impact, the glass breaks into small harmless particles, reducing the risk of human injury.   Untoughened glass breakage, has shards of glass which have potential for serious injuries.   • Glass processing limitations and guidelines may apply to toughened glass.   All processing, cutting, drilling holes and edge work must be performed whilst the glass remains in an annealed state. Toughened glass cannot be processed further. This would effect its stressed state and result in breakage.   • Any work carried out by the purchaser after   toughening is done at OWN risk. • Available with printed logos/patterns. • Edge work Toughened glass cannot be supplied with clean cut edges. Types of edge work available: Arrissed - Flat Ground - Rounded Pencil Edge. The flat ground and rounded pencil edge can be polished at an additional charge.   • Flatness Toughened glass is not always as flat as annealed glass. Generally the deviation is slight depending on size and thickness.   Note Surcharge, minimum quantities and lead times may apply for toughened glasses.
